Welcome to Greater Gatineau Elementary School!
The academic focus for Greater Gatineau School continues to be threefold: to continue to work on building literacy skills in both English and French, and to improve math teaching skills and learning. The home reading program continues and students will be supported in the school by two full-time resource teachers and some part-time resource teachers as well.

This year we will continue to implement the OLWEUS Bullying Prevention Program. Security is insured through the practices of fire drills, code reds, lock-ins, and bus safety. A school policy on healthy eating has been implemented and nutrition is discussed in every class. All students have access to our breakfast program. Our Healthy Eating Program was a huge success. Environmental awareness is part of our everyday routine; recycling in every class and all cleaning products are 100% environmentally safe.
Greater Gatineau’s athletic program includes teams in softball, track and field, soccer, volleyball, football, basketball and cross-country running events. Teachers also offer a variety of clubs and activities to students at lunch hour throughout the year. During our monthly assemblies, themes (social virtues) based on cross curricular competencies are celebrated. There are also student performances at assemblies, hosted by one of our clubs or by individual classes. Parents are always welcome to join our assemblies.
The daycare program runs various activities and is very popular with our students. All staff members continue to implement values based on “Attachment Theory” and have their First Aid Training.
The school is fortunate to have a dynamic Home and School Association which organizes many extracurricular events for both students and parents. We are in need of more parents to help plan and run some of our events, so let us know if you are able to help out. Please e-mail: gghomeandschool@gmail.com if you would like to join. Also, please take a look at our Home and School Facebook page at: Greater Gatineau Home and School.
I am looking forward to an exciting year at Greater Gatineau and I wish you all the best.
