Principal's Message
We have had another successful year at Greater Gatineau and are now ready to begin summer vacation!
I would like to wish all of our grade 6 students all the best as they move onto the next stage of their life.
We also bid farewell to our Vice Principal, Erick Tremblay and our Registration and Finance Secretary, Michelle Comple. We wish them all the best in their new positions, we are thankful for all they have done for us.
We are happy to have James Price step in as our new Vice Principal. Mr. Price was formally a Vice-Principal at Hadley/Philemon. He can be reached by email at jamesprice@wqsb.qc.ca.
We would also like to welcome our new Registration and Finance Secretary Sandra Sullivan. She comes to us from Poltimore School and we are very happy she is joining the Greater Gatineau team! Her email is ssullivanpilon@wqsb.qc.ca.
I hope that everyone enjoys a relaxing and peaceful summer and you’re able to enjoy the outdoors!

TREE DEDICATION
In a small ceremony we dedicated one of our new trees to the Gatineau Intermediate/ Elementary/Henry A. Ward School Alumni.
The alumni wanted to donate something to Greater Gatineau School, and we decided that a tree was the best choice.
Current and future students will enjoy the shade of this tree during outdoor learning or play time. Alumni can come to visit our school yard and watch as it grows for years to come.
Thank-you so much!

Home & School
Message from the President, Heather Phillips
I want to wish all Greater Gatineau families a very happy (and safe) summer. This year continued to be met with challenges, we look forward to the 2022/2023 school with hopes that we can have more in person activities and return to more normal school year. On behalf of all the H&S members, I want to thank everyone who supported the Home and School throughout the year.
This year we held many fundraisers and activities such as an art contest, cotton candy, popcorn, cookie dough, and auction fundraisers just to name a few. This year we raised approximately $5,900 that will be funneled back into the school.
Reminder that we are still looking for new members to join the Greater Gatineau Home and School, please contact us via email at gghomeandschool@gmail.com or through our Facebook page. Our first meeting will most likely be the first week of September.
We will continue to post on our Facebook page, if you haven’t done so already, please follow us to stay up to date on upcoming events facebook.com/GreaterGatineau.

MONTHLY ASSEMBLIES
We are so proud of all the students at Greater Gatineau School for all their work this year.
Each month it was difficult for the teachers to choose only a few students to honour with the awards. Please continue to strive for excellence during the summer and try to follow our school virtues while at camp or visiting with friends and family.
Kindness, responsibility, inclusion, perseverance, co-operation, caring, trustworthiness, respect, fairness and citizenship are the virtues we look for.
Treat people how you want to be treated and you are off to a great start.
WQSB VOLUNTEER AWARD
This year Tammy Stafford was awarded the Western Quebec School Board Volunteer Award. She has been a member of the Home & School for many years. Her help with the H&S activities has been invaluable. With her son graduating this year we will lose a wonderful volunteer and community member.
JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
Our school was able to raise $1788 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation during our Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser.
Our top fundraiser was Thomas Daly who contributed over $1200 with help from his friends and family.
READING OVER THE SUMMER
Research has shown that the average student will lose some of their reading skills over the summer months.
It is important that you encourage your child to continue to read while on summer holidays.
Your child’s IXL math accounts and electronic reading platforms (Raz-Kids etc.) will be available to them during the summer.
KINDERGARTEN OPEN HOUSE
We have a link to our video from the Kindergarten Open House and an Introduction to Kindergarten Slide Show for those who missed the visit.
TRAVEL GAMES
If you have a chance to drive somewhere with your children this summer, here are a few suggestions of games to play;
1) Road Trip Scavenger Hunt
Print out free online hunt sheets or make your own list and look for the objects while on your trip.
2) Bumper Stumpers
Write the letters A to Z on a piece of paper. Keep an eye on the licence plates around you. As you find a licence plate with each letter you can circle it or cross it off the list. You can only use each plate for one letter, so choose wisely. Harder version of the game could be that the letter has to be at the start of the plate number.
3) Alphabet Sign Game
Look for signs that have words that start with each letter of the alphabet in order from A to Z
4) Alphabet start to finish
Pick a topic, like animals. Each person takes a turn to say the name of an animal, the next person has to say an animal that starts with the last letter of the animal before. (Alligator – Rabbit – Turtle – Eagle – etc.) The round ends when someone gets stumped and can’t think of an animal. Pick a new topic and start again.
5) 20 Questions
One player is chosen to be the answerer. That person chooses their object but does not reveal it to the others. All other players are questioners. They each take turns asking a question which can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no”. The answerer answers each question in turn. Sample questions could be: “Is it bigger than a breadbox?” or “Is it alive?” Lying is not allowed in the game. If a questioner guesses the correct answer, that questioner wins and becomes the answerer for the next round. If 20 questions are asked without a correct guess, then the answerer has stumped the questioners and gets to be the answerer for another round.
