Principal's Message
Thank you to all of those who have helped us out with both the Food Drive and Christmas Angel Tree.
Your generosity is much appreciated, and will greatly benefit some of our less fortunate families.
On behalf of Greater Gatineau School, I’d like to wish everyone a family-filled, relaxing Christmas holiday.
All the best to each and every one of you in 2021!
As the colder weather sets in, please remember to send your child to school with warm clothing.
Events at School
LEARN AT HOME DAYS
The premiere has announced that elementary schools will be learning at home up to January 10th. This means that the first week after the holidays the children will be learning from home. January 4th remains a PD day so the learning days will be January 5th-8th.
Packages of learning material have been sent home with the students. The teachers will meet with their classes for one hour each day via Zoom or Google Meet. French teachers will have two 30 minute sessions with their classes. Children will complete their work at home. Please see letter regarding the schedule for the week.
First day back at school will be Monday, January 11th.
SUBWAY LUNCH PROGRAM
Our next Subway Lunch Program will start on Wednesday, January 20th. Forms will be sent home on January 11th.
MAMMAL STUDY AND ECOLOGY GAMES
During the week of January 11th, our Outdoor education consultant will be leading Mammal Study and Ecology Games with the students from Ms. Weir, Mr. McClelland, and Ms. D.V.’s classes.
- January 12th = Ms. Weir
- January 13th = Ms. DV
- January 14th = Mr. McClelland
MONTHLY ASSEMBLY
Our next assembly will be on Friday, January 29th, where we will celebrate the students who have shown the chosen virtue throughout the month.
Please remember to wear your purple GG shirt to all of our monthly assemblies. This creates a sense of community at school.
January is COOPERATION month. We hope to see students making an effort to work together as a team.
TRIBES AT HOME
A great strategy to ensure that everyone is able to participate in dinner conversations is to use a “Talking Stick”.
Use any object to pass around the table, and only the person holding the object is allowed to speak.
This will help to ensure that everyone gets a chance to speak about their day.

Special Notes
INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY – SCHOOL BUS
In the event of inclement weather Mrs. Link will send a “Remind” message to all parents who have signed up. Parents can also visit the School Board Website: (www.wqsb.qc.ca) for daily updates on school bus transportation and school/center closure.
Normally the School Board will contact the principal between 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 a.m., prior to busses starting their routes.
Depending on weather conditions (snowfall, freezing rain) the School Board will assess the road conditions with the assistance of various bus transporters, several municipalities (public works) and French School Boards.
Thereafter, a decision is made whether or not to cancel transportation.
School buses may also be delayed as a result of road and weather conditions.
Parents are responsible for their children prior to boarding and after departing the school bus.
